Automated Speech Evaluation:

BLC's Library of Foreign Language Film Clips:

  • The Berkeley Language Center (BLC)'s Library of Foreign Language Film Clips is a tagged, structured collection of clips from foreign language films. The database and clips are intended for the sole use of instructors at participating institutions as part of their foreign language course curriculum. These clips can only be used within the Fair Use Guidelines of U.S. Copyright Law. [TOP]

    • All films and clips in the LFLFC Master Collection are available for instructional use. Please contact the DLC to add them only till Version 2.0 is released (scheduled January, 2018).

Course Materials Development Suite:

  • The DLC supports faculty and instructors in developing their own teaching and testing materials with multimedia applications (Olson 63). [TOP]

Placement Exam Programs:

  • The DLC ofers placement exams for French, Spanish, German, Chinese, Italian, Japanese, Russian, etc. Please see the Placement Exam page for more information. [TOP]

Reserve Materials:

  • A library of reserve materials is maintained by the DLC. UCD textbooks, workbooks, AV materials, etc. are available for check-out, with a limit of two hours. Click here for available titles. [TOP]

Technology Training:

  • The DLC is happy to provide technology workshops for students to aid them in completing class projects such as digital story-telling with still images and narration, simple video editing, etc. Please contact the Center with your request. [TOP]

Virtual Listening Lab:

  • In Room 57, the DLC has a computerized listening-speaking system, X-Class, that allows instructors to pair or group students for oral conversations or text chat. The audio files in either WAV or MP3 format can be saved on the local computers or can be downloaded to your own device for assessment and research studies. [TOP]
