How to Use Zoom in Teach
Dr. Carlee Arnett
German Dept. UC Davis
Zoom is used on many US campuses for courses, research collaboration, office hours, hybrid courses and other educational purposes. Zoom is a very convenient way to teach a course remotely, to multiple sites or co-teach a course with another campus. The best feature in my opinion is the ability to create groups like we do in a regular classroom but the group members can come from multiple locations. I am currently teaching a joint graduate seminar with Catholic University in Louvain on second language pedagogy and we are exploring these features. Zoom allows a speaker to show PowerPoints or anything on the screen while keeping audio for the entire group, so multiple locations can hear the same lecture and everyone can hear the question and answer as well. I believe that the relationships we have with our colleagues in Louvain through Zoom will already be well established when we visit in August. This is a talk on what Zoom can do and not an explanation of the technology or details about how to use the application.
Carlee Arnett is a professor in the German Department at UC Davis. She is currently co-teaching a graduate seminar with Ferrán Suñer from Catholic University Louvain on Current Research in Foreign Language Pedagogy using Zoom. Her research interests include grammar teaching, cognitive linguistics and historical German syntax.
